Hi guys, I'm new to all this so I figure this will be an ideal place to post my questions. I don’t have any riding experience what so ever and don’t have my provisional yet (although it will be coming shortly). I have been seriously interest in bikes now for a while and I want to get an Aprilia RS 125cc or a Cagiva Mito 125cc for my first bike. I’ll pay up to £2,000 for it. I'm not bothered about when it comes to selling it as I won’t be. My first bike is one that I’ll keep with me forever. My question is, is there any point in me getting one of these bikes now? Or should I just wait until I pass my tests? Other members have said I might as well get one now. My main question is, considering I have no bike experience, would I go to a CBT centre and they’ll train you up? If so, how many lessons does it roughly take to become competent with riding? If I go to the CBT and pass, can I drive away that day? I’m 18, if I passed, could I drive ANY bike as long as it has a BHP of 33 or less and it is restricted? So for example… a Suzuki GSXR 1000!? Once I pass I’ll have to display L plates for two years and stay of motorways right?
Please give me as much information as possible. I've been looking all over to no avail. It's a God send that I found this site.
Thanks, Darryl |

Right, the CBT isn't really a test. It's a day's training. Many people take their CBT even with no experience on 2 wheels albeit even on a pushbike.
You are getting confused with the full license. a CBT allows you to ride with L plates a bike with capacity no larger than 125cc, or a maximum power output of 10bhp?? (<-- dont quote me on the power). You will not be allowed on motorways, and this CBT will run out after 2 years.
There should be many threads similar to this one, I suggest you do a quick search to find all the answers you are looking for, if there is nothing you are still unsure about or hasn't been answered, someone will always know |
