Some friends are holding a weekend biking/camping weekend at their place in Croatia, so it would be rude not to go and see them.
While I've toured all around the UK and done 2 tours in France this will be my first multi country type tour. Fortunately I will have a fellow tourer who's ridden to the Arctic circle on a C90, ridden his KTM through Mongolia and toured throughout Europe.
I'm after some feedback on my proposed route there, still working on the route back.
Saturday, leave Kent early and catch a ferry to Calais, from Calais I intend doing this route. Its a bit of a slog at just under 300 miles but the idea is to use he main roads to get through Belgium as quickly as possible and then camp in Germany.

Tuesday and we get in to the Alps (I wanted to do the Grossglockner but it made the day too long) and do 265 miles ending up near Vienna.

Aw man I love croatia. Been there on my bike quite a few times in the past few years. Being friends with some members of the national cheerleading squad doesn't hurt
If going via Calais I'd stay the night in Cologne.
If going via Harwich (much better) I'd try and make it as far south east as possible. Don't get drunk on the ferry though. The crossing is only 7 hours, and the lack of sleeps hurts on gruelling track across Germany.
Travel via Vienna, Budapest and Siofok to Croatia.
Plitvice and the road it's on leading Split is well worth a look when in Croatia.
On the way back go via Ljubjana, Grossglockner and Munich. |
