Looking at the long term weather forcast it shows rain solidly for the next 4 weeks.

A replay of last year pretty much.....

So are there any proper water proofs which actually work? I'm keeping the muffs on so there's no need for gloves.

I use a Rukka textile jacket and trousers (not sure what model, says "Gore-Tex Performance Shell" on them) that cost a fricken fortune because I was sick to death of having a wet crotch and sleeves for the first hour or so of my work day. (My previous two outfits were charity-shop wear, complete sets for well under £50.)

The Rukka works. I'm not wet any longer, except a small bit around the zipper on the side of the knees if I ride all day in heavy rain (which I did last week in Yorkshire). But I'm sure I could have gone with a cheaper set. Somewhere between £50 and £600 or so is the sweet spot. You get what you pay for.

This months Ride issue has a test of 2 piece waterproofs.

I don't have it to hand, and can't quite remember the winner, but there was a bright orange Alpinestars one that was top 3.

They can't accurately forecast what the weather will be this afternoon, left alone for four weeks. Got a feeling we're going to get the same was we had the last time spring was this shit (1995 - one of the hottest summers ever).

I'm pissed off with the rain and wind. But hell come Monday I will be on my way to Spain for a month. Looking at the BBC weather for France. It's more or less the same as the UK, rain wind and cold. Just can't win.

Was just reading it. The following got 9/9 (3/3 for time to put on (under two minutes), waterproofing and build quality).

Weise 2-Piece Unlined Oversuit £54.99

Richa Rain Warrior Jacket and Trousers £57.98

Alpinestars Quick Seal Out Jacket and Pants £ £89.99

Rev'it Nitric H20 Jacket/Acid H20 Trousers £92.98

Held Rano Jacket and Tempest Trousers £ 111.94

I use Rukka jacket and trousers, expensive, but worth every penny. I'm bone dry every time.

I have a generic biker jacket off ebay, army surplus waterproof trousers and generic ebay motorcycle boots, and it keeps me dry underneath. Except for one patch where the jacket always folds over itself, which makes water pool there and eventually get through the zip.

Total cost of the gear was <£100

Personally I wear my Cranesport waterproof over trousers (also have the top believe they were from aldi but purchased on ebay for £15ish) and my leather jacket have done for almost two years and none of them have leaked.

You should know better than trying to forecast the weather for TT week Dave Wink . Remember a couple of years ago?, sun melting the tarmac in Douglas, rain in Ramsey and hailstones in Glen Helen, all at the same time!
There are some long range forecasts that suggest there will be high pressure and settled weather TT week, others say it will be unsettled early in the week. The only surefire way to get an accurate weather forecast on the island is to look out the window, and that will only be valid for the following 10 minutes Laughing

Yeah....I know Sad The amount of times I've set off from Douglas on the bike because the sun was cracking the flags and ten minutes down the road later and you've gotten soaked through in a downpour.

One has to live in hope though as it's all we've got :/

You call that a spot?! More like the red one on jupiter. I payed about £50 for my jacket and trousers. They are thin water proof plastic type stuff that I put over my leathers. Works well enough for me but they usually wear out after a year or so but I wouldnt expect too much more from more expensive stuff. My £150 waterproof boots seem to be lasting forever. Ive had them about 5 years now and although they are tatty, they are still waterproof.

Yes, I was trying to be sarcastic. My Rukka jacket, trousers and gloves don't leak. My Alpinestars SMX-4s (roughly the same price as yours) don't leak. But that all cost a fair amount -- more than I expected to pay. I've learned that if I spend a lot less for second-hand or bottom-of-the-range stuff, it's false economy. I get wet and cold until I buy more stuff in an effort to stay dry and warm.

Basically, you get what you pay for, but I don't know of any specific amount, above which the stuff starts working.
