Just wondering what you guys do for knee sliders? I generally buy the cheapest random ones I can on Ebay which are sometimes ok but lately I've been getting stuck with really crap ones that are either so full of bubbles they're basically hollow or so thin or so soft they last 2 trackdays at best.

Are there any cheap ones that are definitely decent? Is it worth spending £20+ on the more pricey ones or do they not last any better?

Anyone tried those teardrop shaped ones with "moto GP" (lame) written on them?

Leather ones, or don't put your knee down so hard.

I seem to remember Motrax sliders being especially shite. As in so soft they were dead after one trackday.

I know there are varied opinions but...

If you are getting through sliders that quick then maybe you are forcing your knee down too hard? Knee can be put down to lightly contact the track, more as a gauge of lean angle rather than used to prop yourself up in the turn.

That's my opinion. Que the naysayers. Pass the popcorn

That's the thing though, I don't think I do put it down that hard and I tend to lift it in the middle of long corners too. I don't really lean my weight on it anyway.

Do the leather ones last better? I heard they grip a bit which might feel weird Shocked

Might see if there's anywhere cheap to get the Wiz ones...they're £25 on their website which seems a lot for a bit of plastic.

When i started trackdays i got through 2 sliders per trackday at mallory on the right knee ( plus through my leathers and knee protection... ). As i got faster i stopped trying to get my knee down and found that i was trying to tuck my knee in instead of sticking it out.

The Wiz Trak pux ( Hard) are the best and a set lasted me 5 race meetings plus testing last year. Will certainly be buying more.

My wiz ones seem to be lasting well, bit more expensive but are still going. I have started swapping them as I seem to get my knee down at different angles left and right to even up the wear on them.

I have some old Finnish flag ones (came with my old leathers) you can have if you want Declan?

Cheers Matt Thumbs Up I know they'll be rubbish but it's interesting to see.

I did another one at Bedford last week and got my mojo back a bit. I was chuckling at the difference between the photos...I was so gash around Cadwell Embarassed Sat bolt upright and looking uncomfortable as hell Laughing First trackday of the year is always a bit of a washout but a new bike and new leathers didn't help.

Driving Miss Daisy around Cadwell...

Starting to look a bit more racey at Bedford...

I would mostly try to keep my knee just above going down.
If it does touch down, I know I've leant more than I have before. It feels stable, lift up a little higher maybe.

I do like to sort of find the tarmac with my knee as I tip it in then once I'm at a constant lean I lift it a bit. Even when it's touching I don't press hard on it, just lightly skim the track but it still seems to wear them out pretty quick.

I think it may just be because I use rubbish no-brand knee sliders off ebay so I'll see if the Wiz ones make a difference. I did actually find some Frank Thomas ones last night that I forgot I had that came with some leathers so I'll kill them off first.

That looks spot on Matt Thumbs Up I definitely still need to work on getting lower on the bike and getting my head further towards the apex. A lot of it is fitness...I gave up rugby last year after a bad injury and I'm too unfit now to properly clamber around on the bike for the whole day Laughing

Yeah definitely a massive part of it is fitness, the work I’m doing in the gym is starting to help but I still start getting lazy towards the end of sessions! Got to keep at it and see how I get on at my two meetings at Cadwell at the end of this month.

Try being 6' 6", the can touches down before the knee. Laughing

It should be easier for you to get you knee down if your body position is right...

Maybe I have freakishly longer lower legs, my knees are always up near the top of the tank on any bike I've owned. I couldn't touch my knees on the Blade at Brands until the can was almost touching too. I know it was "almost" because it did touch more than once.

Pegs should go down before the can; do you have rearsets?

Long lower legs would make it harder I guess. A freakishly tall bloke I was speaking to at Bedford was asking me how to get his knee down and I figured the long legs might be the issue. Most of the time though it's just twisting on the bike rather than hanging off perpendicular.

It did have rearsets, as did the last RR7 and the current ZRX. I can't say I've ever made an effort to try and get my knee down. I do hang off, but more like a gekko trying to hump the cylinder-head than a chimp making like Norman Wisdom's ear.
