I got absolutely saturated yesterday on my way to work.
My top half was fine, my cycling waterproof that I wear over my not waterproof jacket did it's job as usual.
However my Buffalo waterproof trousers that had been so dependable last summer during all the rain then just let water straight through.
I've got some nikwax on it's way to me to sort it out with, but today I'm prepared for getting wet.
I've got my hopefully waterproof hiking back-pack (too windy for top box) with change of clothes, towel and the wife's hair-dryer for drying my trousers out a bit.
Hopefully able to nikwax my gear over the weekend ready for next week.
If the nikwax fails, anyone have one of those rain suits to stay dry when commuting?
or do we not like them? ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

What nikwax product did you buy?
I used the wash-in one and then used the spray on stuff, which worked well |

I have the most fool proof way to stay dry. I live in a country where it is sunny and hot almost all the time, and I merely have to wait out a thunderstorm
If you want to live on a grey cold wet island, then soak it up ____________________ 2011 KTM 990 Dakar

I've got a basic Hein Gericke Sheltex textile jacket, which hasn't been too bad in wet. Just a bit damp around seam at the end of sleeves, from where water runs down my arms.
I normally wear leather trousers, so have a pair of cheap £20 HG waterproof over trousers, which have kept me dry fine. They're basic, but lightweight, no problem rolling them up and stuffing under my seat. ____________________ Beginner Biker Adventures Blog

i use Fabsil on all my waterproof stuff
literally on everything, even my goretex jackets
it makes the fabric bead the water away, it stinks when you apply it though |

Buffalo trousers aren't waterproof (the seams aren't sealed so that = stitching holes that allow water ingress) and your rucksack won't be waterproof for the same reason. Get some dry bags, put important stuff in dry bags inside rucksack.
All the Nikwax will do is make the water bead up and run off quicker and more effectively, it won't make anything that isn't already sealed into something waterproof.
Wear them over leathers and it would have to be really shit weather to get to your skin, but it will still get there eventually ____________________ '01 Suzuki GZ125 - scrapped

When it really chucks it down, I get the bin liners out under my gear I wear one with two arm holes and one for my head, which is like a blouse, I rip the bottoms off two to cover my arms, make two leg holes in the forth to make a sort of nappy type thing, rip the bottoms off another two for the main portion of my legs, and another two to cover my feet and the remainder of my legs. Works a treat, although I get some odd looks taking that lot off! |

Found out my textiles are not "monsoon" proof
The trouser in particular (2nd pair) always seem to leak around the groin I think it's the seems between the grippy fabric for the seat and the normal stuff that makes them leak.
I'll either waterproof them or find a summer bargain |
