hi all,

as some of you may remember while ago i did put a cone filter on my xs 125 (sym) after which i started to have a very lean engine and lots of spitsback from carb etc

now i did place the original box back in and tried to adjust the air valve. no matter what i do ( adjusting the valve up or down while the engine is warm) , when bleeped the bike chokes and switches off. i managed to fix it to an extend that it responds better if bleeped slowly but not if you suddenly open the full throttle

now this bike has done around 10k(miles) and i have not done any valve clearance adjustment . could that be the cause as the timing of intake and exhaust valve could be wrong or something inside the carb such as floating level etc.

i did clean the carb and got the level sorted using the manufacture specs

any advice as always is much appreciated

thanks

Get the carb set up on an Exhaust Gas Analyser, the setting need to be taken back to what works and you do't know how to do it.

so no way of doing it diy ?

is it not simply to move the air screw from one side to another in very small turns and find the best performance by bleeping the throttle and the one which doesn't kill the engine is the best ?

my carb is only one year old and have cleaned the jets.

one other question, is the float level very important?

i am curious to know. when the fuel tab is on regardless of movement there is going to be fuel going to the carb fuel bowl thus alway a reserve in there so what is the big deal about the level.

can the engine in one heavy acceleration suck all that fuel in thus resulting in lean or rich mixture ?

the float level should not surely cause any start cutouts when bleeped
