just carried out a service on my VFR400 nc24 (oil/filter change, new plugs, air filter) and the bike keeps back firing now and again after use of the throttle sounds like its coming from the direction of the collector box which is brand new had a look at the box and there is a small amount of blowing comming from it could this be the cause Question

Sounds like the cause ot me. If it cant be sorted id take it back(if its as new as you say it should not happen). Get a new one or a refund.

Some burbling on the overrun is normal. Well it is for NC30s, my NC24 only did it on bad days.

The collector box. It costs 300 or 400 quid, if you can find one. Its the bit to watch out for when buying a VFR.

Try and get an exhaust bandage around it.
