My wifes 50cc scooter has been having problems starting after being garaged for 3 years, so after much trial and error (including a carb cleaning that worked well for a day), I have replaced the carburetor. It starts perfectly now, and idles like it never has. But when I give it gas, if I don't ease into it - it simply remains at idle and won't accelerate. If I ease into it though, it will rev up a little, and as soon as it hits about 7mph, you can hear it kick into high gear and it revs with great acceleration to its 30mph limit. I've adjusted the air mixture to the point that it responds the best, but it is still hit and miss, and if starting uphill - it is a careful process to get it to rev slowly - until it hits about 7mph.

The bike only has about 800 miles on it, but is 6 years old.

Any ideas anyone?
