Went to take my GSX and my boys cg125 for an MOT this morning. His cg started fine he pulled away then stopped put it in neutral while he waited for me, then went to put it gear to pull away again but nothing.
The gear lever won't go into first, the neutral light stays on and when the gear lever returns you can hear a metalic click from the gear box area.
The gear leaver will move up to second and the neutral light will go out but there is still no drive and you can push it with the clutch released with no resistance.

Any advice greatly appreciated, as we would like to have a go at doing it ourselves to save him a bit of cash.

Its a honda cg 125 brazil 1988
And was running fine until this morning.
Many thanks

He's had the bike for nearly a year and its been fine all this time.
I originally thought the clutch, but would that stop it going into first.

CG clutch cable adjustment can be a bit of a fiddle. Sitting over time shouldn't affect adjustment but the cable could be tight in the sleeve. Try removing the lever from the clutch pivot and ensure the cable has a silky smooth action in the sleeve. If it hangs-up in the cable it can upset clutch engagement. It's a small clutch so there is not much between engaged and disengaged.

Use a PTFE based lube to lubricate the cable. Don't use WD-40 if you can avoid it. The solvent in WD-40 will wash out any lube that is in there and will only provide a very temporary fix.

Found the problem. Removed the chain guard to inspect the chain.
No chain, what a numpty the chain had snapped.
New one should be here in a few days so he can take it for his MOT after that, then I should have a load of new questions for the repairs for that.
Thanks for your answers.

CG has a complete chain cover on it, you cant see the chain untill it's been removed. Glad I checked before starting on the clutch lol.
