Hi all,

While taking the chain off I also looked at my cush drive(little rubbers behind the sprocket) to find out why my chain had a little play . the play is about 2 to 3 cm . looking at the rubbers they all look good and seems like they are fine . is the play normal?

What can happen if ignored?

Here are some pic of it

overview

also my rear pads have 2-3 mm thickness. I have adjusted the rear brake almost all the way thus although in the picture it looks as if it has plenty of pads lefts but think it is all gone and need changing . is that correct? What is the brand new pad thickness?
Also on the brake cover ( if that is the right word) there is a little arrow and the brake adjuster end is very close to that arrow as per pic below

this pic doesn't show the arrow just found it on the net but basically the black arrow is where I have market it and the front of the hanging thing which is connecter to the brake is very close to the arrow

it is not letting me to embed the pics to the page. I am using the
what am I doing wrong? is there a specific website I have to upload the pictures to ?

2 to 3 cm's of movement is too much, new set of rubbers needed. The chances if you ignore the problem in all probability will be disintegration of the existing ones followed by metal-to-metal contact buggering-up the hub and the sprocket carrier maybe even chucking you down the road. New rubbers needed.

the thing is the old rubber looks as if it is knew and when i took it off there were no burnt or previous rubber dusts in there which suggests wear

i just got a ruler and it is rather 0.5 to 1cm and not 2-3 . i think i didn't measure it right in the first place
it has only done 10k from new thus is it not unsual for it to wear and need replacement ?

btw how is the sprocket teeth from the pic, does it look good to you ?

If it's only 1/2 to 1cm I wouldn't worry about it, check it again in 3 months time and if it's still the same it should be acceptable but do check and if it approaches the movement you initially posted, time to buy new rubbers. The replacement costs shouldn't be too much if you're into DIY as it's a simple task. Best of luck !.
