Odd dates on license

I passed my A1 back in March 2009, and have had the <25KW restriction on my license since. I passed my car test on 14th May. My license came back all well and good, with the following:

AM: 22.05.13
A: 18.03.11
B: 14.05.13
fklnpq:18.03.09

A few questions:

1. I've lost 2 years bike entitlement. Granted, they were restricted, but A1 and A2 are both blank. Should I not have A1: 18.03.09 on there? Is it worth doing anything about? Does it mean I can only put 2 years on my insurance, even though I was riding my 125 with a full license during that time?

2. Where the hell did they pull that AM date from? It looks like the date they actually produced my new license, since I received it on 24th.

You have just been handed the anal invasion by DVLA. Do not pass go, do not claim 2 years of bike entitlement.

Always lose your licence a week after you get a new one. Keep your entitlements there. Unfortunately, DVLA think you now require the 2 years "probation" on a restricted bike to be removed. Arses. Laughing

Nope. You passed on an A1 "test bike" but you've never had an A1 license. You had an A license with a 25kW restriction and there's nowhere to record that on the current license card.

Nope (probably). I had a long email conversation about this with DSA Doris and the conclusion was "We know we're stealing two years, but we're not going to change it, and it's not a problem [although it is, read on]. Look on your counterpart for previous entitlement."

Where, hilariously, "A<=25k" it is (or was) recorded as "A2" even though that category didn't exist until this year. Again "We know, we don't care" from the DSA.

Except that counterparts are going away as well soon. I really hope you've kept your pass certificate somewhere safe.

It entirely depends on the insurer and exactly what they ask.

If they ask when you passed your test then it's 2009 and 4 years (DSA Doris said they'd confirm that to an insurer even if you don't have your pass certificate).

However, if they ask specifically about the category of license that you've currently got, then you're on a sticky wicket and even the Ombudsman will screw you.

If they ask something in the middle, like how long you've had "a license" or "a bike license" or even "a full license", you're on your own there. Except I'm there with you.

There's no clear answer, sorry.

Typical DVLA fare then really Smile I still have my pass cert, plus a scan of my old license and counterpart, so I'll leave it as it is - I can imagine that arguing the point will end up with them reapplying my 25KW restriction and dating it 2013!
