Hi guys,

I am asking this question on behalf of my friend. He has an XJR1300 and was changing the plugs on it.

In the process, what he can only describe as piece of glass smaller than a lentil fell down the plughole of cylinder 3. He said it looked kinda sandy and it was as if the heat of the engine had turned it to glass.

He tried hoovering it out and turning over the engine by hand to make sure everything was ok. He has started the bike up and it's all running fine and he thinks he heard something in the exhaust so maybe it was fired out the exhaust valve.

I said I'd ask on here to find out what your opinions were? Should he worry about it or do you think it will have been blasted to bits by the engine and/or fired out the exhaust valve?

The bike is running fine.

Thanks for any help. Thumbs Up

He knows as much as we do and can draw the same conclusions...take a chance or have the top off.

It probably blew out.

I once had a few very very tiny pebbles fall into a cylinder in a similar way. Bike kept going no issues.

It'll either get stuck under the valve or blown out the exhaust. If it's not missing on that cylinder it's already gone.

My mate dropped a pencil down the plug hole setting his piston to TDC. We just started it up and burnt out.

What is the melting point of glass?
What is the running temperature of a bike engine?
Still think it turned sand to glass?

It's more likely some lassie lost a 1/4 carat diamond from an earing or something and it bounced into the plug recess. Rolling Eyes

If it's still running let it be.
If someone canny sleep for the thought of it get a boreoscope down the plug hole or whip the head off.
You can get a boreoscope for about 30 squids off t' Internet.
