Quick question, will replacing my stock (soft steel) header pipe for an aftermarket stainless steel one affect the running of my fuel injected CRF250L?

Highly unlikely, unless you go for a performance "big bore" pipe.

I swapped the header on my XT for stainless and noticed absolutely no difference, apart from the lack of rust, of course.

How old is the bike? Get the Plus Gas going sooner rather than later.

The bikes 9mths old. To be honest I'm not looking for a performance up grade, just a nicer looking pipe. Soft steel looks crap once the black paint has vanished. Stainless steel should look and last much better

Was just wary of going down the road of a simple upgrade requiring more than I thought

Cheers

Shouldnt be a problem. Does the stock pipe have a cat in it? The stainless ones probably wont so the bike MAY need remapping.

Thanks for the replies. Google hunt suggests the cat is in the can. Seems a strange place to me.

My only experience is with a CBR6. Reading a lot of forums did show that many people had a problem with a particular make of header, I can't remember which make though. Some cheaper versions omit the balance pipe to save money but it affects the performance.

My answer, as always, search the 'net for other peoples comments and reviews.

So basic stainless steel header pipe ordered. When I fit it, what's the 'best' method? Just to re-use the current header bolts or are copper type ones better? Any specific tips?

I'm kinda trying to avoid future rot issues regarding future removal / busted studs etc

Cheers

Start the penetrating oil now just in case. Make sure you have new gaskets to use as well. You could always fir new brass nuts for the full belt and braces approach.

Valid points but the CRF is a single so balance pipe problems won't be a, ummmmmmm, problem.
