How long should a battery last - plugged into an optimate when not being used over the winter.

Mine is dead again, only managed five and a half years.

I would say that 5 and a half years is a reasonable life to expect out of a battery. Thumbs Up

I'd say normal is 3 to 5 years.

I have had a battery years but I have learned that a new battery may only last you days.

It is a bit like asking how long does a bulb last imo.

There is no answer.

I have never got 5 years out of a battery in daily use.
Maybe a bit over a year but that is going 8 hours a day 5 days a week and more.

I find the original battery may last up to 5 years. After that about 3 years

I suppose it beat the last one (that wasn't plugged into an optimate when not in use) by over three years.

Before The Wall came down a Battery would easily last three to four years. But now with all these bludy Pols and Eastcranians flooding the country your luck if it stays on the bike while you're in buying a paper.

OEM Two-Three years.
After Market Four to five years. (Decent quality.)

£29.99 including delivery (YUASA YTX9-BS). Arrived this afternoon and just fitted. Of course, I now feel like a master mechanic - do my skills have no bounds?

I read on t' Internets that YUASA were one of the first to develop the AGM/Gel battery.

Praise be to YUASA. Very Happy

Those boys at Yuasa also hold the record for the highest charge density you can get from lead-acid cells.

Prolly the reason why just about every maintained emergency light, UPS or other safety system uses them.

I've had my motobatt for about 3 months, new regulator was fitted at the same time and now my indicators don't work when my headlight is on.

Also the neutral tell tale is going lighter so looks like I'll be getting a new battery if this carries on.
