So I sold the CG earlier this month, picked up the YBR 16 days ago and got rid today. I want a fun bike, thinking an NSR125 but will need it reliable to commute 15 miles a day on.

I keep thinking of getting one but keep putting myself off due to the expense of maintenance, ie engine rebuilds, piston rings etc...

So now, its a choice between a four stroke CBR/GT125R or a two stroke DT/NSR

Somebody convince me?

Sorry for the thread about choosing a 125. I know I'm a #nobcat

NSR125 is reliable if looked after.

Piston rings are every 10k miles I believe and are easy to do - a lot less hassle than the same on a 4 stroke with overhead cams.

Recently I've ridden two friend's 125s a bit; a YBR and NSR. While they both suit each rider's needs, I was definitely pleased I convinced the NSR owner to go that way - as that extra oomph and better brakes do make a good difference, even through town traffic (especially when I had to give him a lift back after dropping his car off to be weighed in.)

Upon purchase of a two stroke, gashes far and wide will start to froth with righteous fury. New born kittens will implode and every 16 year old girl within a 10 mile radius will be seduced with a mere glance at the pillion seat.

NSR is 20 mph faster if derestricted....better build quality and a lot less push bike sized than the newer 4t road bikes. They are also just as reliable as a 4t if left standard.

NS125/NSR125 or TZR125. Still relatively affordable and strong engines but be prepared to have to maintain it.

Get one, look after it, pass your test and you will get back what you paid for it.

Then get a 250 or bigger 2T and have an even bigger grin Wink

Would recommend a DR125R. Quick in derestricted form, nice and high to see over traffic, decent suspension for the rigours of potholed roads. Seat does feel like a plank of wood but no great problem on a 15 mile commute.

You haven't got all the plastic of the NSR. Spares are still plentiful. DTR is also a simple motor to pull apart.
