Hi all - Hi - I recently changed the oil and oil-filter in my '97 YZF-600 (Marketed as the Thundercat in Europe). After doing this (and misc other minor stuff - chain-tension, fluid-level checks etc), I tested all actions OK, then replaced the cowling. The next day I took it out, it worked fine for a short journey through town, but then when I got out onto the highway, after accelerating down the on-ramp, I noticed it was resting on 0 and the tachyometer was also inactive. Any idea where I could start looking? N.B: Rev-counter still works, and back-lighting still works - all normal diagnostic lights still work.

Thanks in advance

Pete

You checked the cable hasn't simply come loose?

Thanks, but the cable seems to be in place, I've tried disconnecting it from the speedo, walking the bike forward and seeing if the cable rotates, but it doesn't...

Have recently had similar problem with my bike. Initially discovered that the peg that locates into the speedo cable had worn down, go this fixed and then found that there is an oil seal on the wheel hub that has lugs that drive the speedo drive, this was a loose fit and was spinning in the hub.
