Quote:
The Hollywood actor Michael Douglas has claimed that the throat cancer which nearly killed him was caused by giving oral sex.

HPV, or Human papilloma virus, is known to cause cervical cancer but is now thought to be increasingly responsible for mouth and throat cancers and the incidence of them appear to be on the rise.

Dr Kat Arney, of Cancer Research UK, told the Today programme's Sarah Montague that while there "is always a risk" when people perform sexual acts with new partners, but she added that "we wouldn't want to scare people off from enjoying themselves".

why is it everything I enjoy can give you Cancer Laughing

Asked if he regretted having smoked, the actor told the newspaper: "No. Because without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV which actually comes about from cunnilingus.

Neck/oral cancer is mostly caused by smoking and drinking.

HPV does cause quite a lot of them too, but they tend to be easier to treat than the smoking and drinking related cancers. Most (80%) people have HPV at some point, it matters not if your preference is for sausages or kebabs.

Anyone remember that report from some years back on CNN that being a cumguzzler (that is, ingesting the briny load) helped prevent breast cancer?

Laughing

I should really have picked misogynist scientist as my career. "Cuntylickus bad! Jizz gargling good! I want to see callouses on those knees, ladies!"

Actually, this is f*cking great news.

Recently there was an article about how sperm was good for women. Now there is an article about how giving oral is bad for men.

The solution? The answer that is beneficial to everyone?

More blow jobs. Women, step it up!

So when did Mr Douglas earn his medical degree?
I don't see any seasoned Medical Professionals giving him acting advice...

its possible they type of cancer he has is not smoking related and can be traced to HPV
some cancers can be traced to well known causes directly, this seems to be one
from reading the reports and the medical evidence in these reports Thumbs Up

Ah cool, it was more the phrasing of the quote that had me, seemed more like he was suggesting that was the cause, I'd rather hear it from a medical professional than an actor...
I suppose that's the media tho.

HPV and oral cancer is well established, iirc about 40% are HPV associated. Physiologically the epithelia of the mouth isn't hugely different from the cervix, where 99%+ cancers are caused by HPV. HPV is also linked to anal, vulval, penile etc cancers so the relationship is well known.

In the UK, testing for HPV in head and neck cancer is not routine, but in the US where random PET scans can be put on your insurance, it wouldn't surprise me if he was HPV tested. HPV associated oral cancers are still more common in smokers/drinkers though.

Initial infection -----> cancer takes an average of about 10 years. It is also very unlikely that any one infection is going to become a cancer. I.e. most of us get HPV, most of us do not get HPV associated cancer.

So.... unless you are swingers, it is probably well past the point that abstaining would make any difference Laughing .

Most recent news article, Douglas backpedals and admits he was talking shit (said he was misquoted), who looks the fool now Mr Douglas... Very Happy

https://news.sky.com/story/1098659/michael-douglas-talks-frankly-about-illness

(BTW there has still never been any proven data presented that Cannabis causes any form of cancer, neither has there been any proof in the opposite direction either mind, but we have the government alone to blame for that lack of testing)
