When I got pulled in France for speeding the coppers thought my tax disc was my insurance cert... not sure that paying VED in England makes the blindest bit of difference to rozzers elsewhere. Same for MOT.... only thing that matters AFAIK is insurance and whatever else the country has mandated for driving (highvis vest, reusable breathaliser etc)

all ports in and out of the UK have ANPR so they will pick you up there using untaxed vehicle, unless on trailer
