Today I got stopped, initially for not displaying a tax disc.

It was an Audi ANPR car and after i'd assured him it was taxed and he suggested how to prove it he informed me the car was showing as not insured.
Bit of a surprise, I did it on GoCompare a couple of weeks back, passed many traffic cars before today and had no issues.

Anyway after calling my insurers it appears the 106 I just scrapped was insured not the new one, for 3weeks.

Add to that I was stopped while un-insured so il be reported for that to the courts, no matter of the circumstances.
I cannot see how I would insure a car I scrapped instead of the 306, the reg's arent remotely similar. Here's the icing on the cake, while we were on the phone in his car he asked the lass on the call about convictions, she said none were admitted. He asked me, I said I had 6points then as I finished my reply the person and licence check came back confirming what I told him.

But, a sale (acceptance of terms) took place, which involved incorrect details and there was something mentioned about fraud, am I likely to be done for this as fraud even though I had no idea the details were wrong?

They say theres record of a quote for the right car a day before this policy was bought but the card used on the right quote was declined then the wrong auote paid for under the wrong reg.

I called them later tonight, cover quote (amended) has been sent to the underwriters for approval first thing tomorrow so I can get it out the impound (£150 impound fee and £20 a day charge) asap but am I facing criminal charges? Im looking at more points, probably a ban I know but.....

I dont understand how it happened.

Shitter.

Did you quote over the phone?

Sometimes they can replay your actual call to see who was at fault.

Good luck Thumbs Up

Yeah, I wouldn't bank on that. The point of the penal (uh huh huh) system in this country is to extract every penny they can out of you for any old mistake.

This sort of thing terrifies me. A genuine human error, nothing intended by it, but I'm sure you'll get the book thrown at you.

Hopefully you'll get some sympathy, but it may be a good idea to seek professional legal advice to see what can be done about it.

Unfortunately so, never had issue before so no reason to be suspicious now.

The cop was quite sound, gave me lots of advice and imstructions to help me, he said it happens often where normal folk change cars around renewal time but the policy auto-renews on the existing car and theyre caught out.

He said get proofs of everything taken to court showing it was an honest mistake and I might well be let off lightly... 3 extra points and couple hundred quid fine isnt 'lightly' in my book.

Dont get me wrong I had a duty to check the finer details and it is a bloody good job I hadnt had incident but a criminal record; involving fraud?? That can indeed truly fuck your life up. Don't need that. Sad

I'm sorry I'm clearly not as perfect as you.

All the time you moan on about what a sanctimonious arrogant nob I am, yet here you do the same? Hypocrit much?

I was wrong to not check, fair. But who would insure a (standard) car they have stripped to scrapped WHILE having to use the new reg to order parts for the MOT?

Did you knowingly take out an insurance policy and not declare the 6 points ?

Normally I'd fire in with Road Traffic this and Motor Vehicles (Driving Licenses) that, but under the circumstances I'd suggest that you get all your paperwork together then get in touch with a specialist motoring solicitor and prepare to get shafted at least one way.

Sorry. Sad

No, there was no reason to or gain from taking out that policy, the car named was scrapped.

@Rog, guess this can serve as example...

Did you run a quote for the old car as well as the new one.....

If you did, bet you have picked up the wrong quote to renew and simply pressed OK and not read any of the details Embarassed

Still a expensive lesson and one you won't do again.

At least you got a good guy who has given you advise and not simply throw the book at you and leave you at the road side bleeding.

Not much to add other than this is a great example of why you should:

A - check your policy documents
B - do it all online so that the retarded phone gibbon can't feck you over.

i went to court for a no insurance offence when i was told i was uninsured because my car was lowered 80mm instead of the 60mm i had declared to the insurance company.. i went in with 46 insurance certificates from 46 cars i had owned having spent more then 9.5k on insurance in my first 4 years of driving and was given 6 points taking me to 12 so i received a 6 month ban and a £350 fine

thanks for that justice system

Ring them up and ask for recordings of your calls, I got a ridiculously cheap quote on the TDM took it when the docs came through it was all wrong, said I had no points and 2 NCB when I had 6 points and 0ncb. The quote trebled but they listened to my original call saw that I had spoke the truth the whole time and the gimp on the phone fucked it. and I got the insurance for the cheap price. Thumbs Up

Good advice - they generally listen if you're reasonable. Steve... they may even set the insurance to the correct date (do not tell them about the cops first though!).

I think internet wires are crossed..

It was through GoCompare, the online insurance site.

Here is a pic of the 106 being towed off on the 6th of March:

https://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s720x720/424418_10150832378726102_634281101_12293909_1009291900_n.jpg

The policy for this car rather than the replacement 306 was taken out on the 16th march - 10 days later.

There was a quote for the 306 the day prior (15th March) but the payment was declined so the 16th saw a policy bought for the 106.

It does seem liked I cocked it up, choosing the wrong option on the comparison site.

It wasn't malicious, I'm fully aware the 306 wouldn't pass an ANPR check if it wasn't insured so I'd never knowingly use it.

Is it really £150 imound fee and £20 a day storage now?? Crying or Very sad

I doubt circumstances will matter much, if you weren't insured they will do you for 6 points, i hope it works out better than that for you, goodluck Thumbs Up
