Ok, last week, took the Mod1 of the Big Bike DAS test and managed to fail by dabbing my foot on the U Turn Sad

Everything else was fine, Emergency stop was spot on, even though it was damp and greasy under foot, Haz Avoid was cock on too.

Had a little bit of trouble getting used to the throttle control on the instructor's bike as all are different and as a result, too slow, lost balance and foot down.

Went home and got out the daily ride on the driveway (2m narrower than the 7.5m test area) and BAM, first time, round in a U perfect, next 10 times, same again, not a foot down not a loss of control, not a problem.

So this got me thinking (dangerous I know), If I apply for the A test, rather than the Big Bike one and pass that on the 125, along with Mod2 on the same bike, this should allow me to ride a 33hp bike for a couple of years, then automatically progress onto a bigger bike once the period is up.

Is this correct or have I gotten the wrong end of the stick with the changes earlier this year?

The new laws has changed this significantly, the automatic upgrade only applies to those who passed before the laws change, if you passed your test before jan 19th you will automatically upgrade to big bike, however after that you have to complete a series of tests, I'm not too sure what exactly maybe someone else can clarify! Luckily I passed my test before all this bullsh1te!

Yes.

Sorry, you now get a license for the category of bike that you pass the tests on. It does makes sense in principle, it's just a bit of a pain because of our gold plated testing regime.

The reason you can do it time and time again on your bike is you are used to it.

I used to be able to balance the Varadero slipping the clutch at the traffic lights at the top of my road using the hill to hold it against, no feet down from the light going red to it turning green again.

Couldn't do it on my ZZR, although my slow speed balance is much better than it was when I first got it.

Basically, you're used to it, you automatically know how much movement is needed to balance it and recover to make up for dropping the revs etc.

The test centre I did my test through normally match you to a bike the day before your test and that's the bike you'll do your test on so that you're used to and familiar with it.

Cheers fro that guys.

Looks like I'll have to grab my instructor's bike for a few hours the day before and then again on the resit day in order to get back into the swing of it.

Thanks again

Mike
