I am in need of 50 to 100ml of hydrochloric acid to remove melted alloy off my cylinder Rolling Eyes happy to pay for postage. Ive been trying to find it on the net but it seems to only come in £25 2litre + bottles and i only need a dribble or two to dip some cotton wool buds in.

If anyone can help I would be very grateful. Smile

Why do you think hydrochloric acid is the correct material to use?

"Alloy" implies an aluminium based material and usually caustic soda is an effective way to degrade that and is much more easily available.

Confused about what you are trying to do. If you believe you really need hydrochloric acid have a word with a brickie because they will use 25% stabilised hydrochloric acid for brick/ flagstone cleaning

I doubt you actually want hydrochloric acid but you can make it by making a saturated solution of salt in vinegar.

You can buy it in any good hardware shop. Usually about £2.50 for 500ml.

It's sold as "spirits of salt" and is used as a drain cleaner.

It's possible there is some in the labs at work. It is impossible that they would let me take some.

I remember from when I had my TDR250, I was planning on de-coking the exhausts and was warned by near everybody to remove my DEP's as they are ally and would be dissolved by the chemicals.

edit: Also it is caustic soda (then end result I believe being sodium hydroxide) not hydrochloric acid that you use for de-coking.

edit 2: where gloves and goggles, can be very nasty stuff! And do it outdoors, iirc it produces hydrogen as a by product, may just be when used as a base for electrolysis though Thinking

I've got 32% HCl in my lab. Quite concentrated stuff mind, before you use it, I'd advise you to dilute it a bit but could look at getting you some sent if you want some Thumbs Up

Anything written by Marv Klotz you can take right to the bank. He's also written some really handy programs (in DOS) for common engineering problems.
