Epic.... shame the bike let him down but after a speeding in the pits penalty he wouldn't have got on the podium anyway .

Great guy, love to see him with his sense of humour. big shame about the speeding in the pits and his misfortune. would have liked to have seen him on the podium. maybe next time. Wink

I think he's a whining bellend. He will always end up throwing his toys out of the pram for one reason or another when all he really needs to do to win a TT is sort his head out. Forget about trucks and longboats and steam engines and tea and focus on riding and preparation.

Yeah he's a tantrum thrower. But that could be also interpreted as passionate.

Take Hutchy. He never throws his toys out of the pram. He plays motorcycle racer full time and he has the charisma of a daffodil!

Thing about road racers is it is not a well paid sport. Its not big money like BSB or Moto GP and they need something else to rely on for the rest of the year. Guy Martin has always stated he is a truck mechanic first and a motorcycle rider second. Is there anyone on this forum that cannot say the same?

Joey Dunlop ran a bar in Ballymoney 8 months of the year. The other 4 months of the year he won motorcycle races and Joey up until his death.

Personally I like Guy. He's a character and a half and if every ADHD person in the would could be condensed and thrown into a body and filled with (old) smarties then the end result would be that guy.

Will he win a race? Probably not. Does he deserve to? Probably. Is he fun to watch racing and listen to in an interview? Definitely.

^ This, he might never win but he's brought some personality to it. He's just making his way in life and doing what he wants, if he really really needed (not wanted) to win a TT he would change but he doesn't cos he likes the life he has, and that is being true to yourself.
Compare him to Michael Dunlop, different characters but you know MD is just going to carry on winning because he's driven in a different way to Guy.

I find him hilarious on his TV programs such as How Britain Worked. It's just him in his overalls saying "not bad that. ooh aye not bad". Its actually my favorite program!

Forget winning, I just want him to finish in one piece! He's as crazy as a bag of cats and I have no idea how he hustles his bike around the course so quickly with his prep time.

He's crazy enough that one day he might win it and if that day comes, I will be opening the champagne.

FZR400 (blown engine), ZXR750 (blown engine), ZX6R (accident), CBR600 which had engine issues after which I learned to change gear..., CBR900, CBR924 (stolen), CB600, CB1300 (everything blew up), BMW K1300GT (written off, hit from rear while stationary), Bandit 1250 for a couple of months, Triumph Sprint ST 1050 (nicked) and somewhere in there, I wrote off a Ducati 748 at Cadwell.

He bought a car and it only ran 3000 miles and he flogged it because it didnt suit him so he has an Aston Martin he keeps in the tractor shed and almost never uses that either,,,,

Its a shame they dont get paid proper super sport money because they put their life on the line far more than F1 drivers ever do ,,,,, there is nothing at all between them and the stone walls....

Fingers crossed they all make it to the end of the season ,,, Gross respect for them guys But Guy Martin most of all because he is a trier in every way and unlike many others he really is entertaining

Any idea what their salaries are? I know their contracts aren't worth millions but I would be surprised if it's less than 50k a year. More than enough to haul your ass to the circuit a few times a week, and hardly poverty line.

Not quite on subject, but.... In my youth of Hailwood, Ago, Reid, Ivy et.al., They raced everything from UK short curcuits to the Assens, the Island and the Nurburgring. That is why I will always consider them to be the very best 'racers' of all time.
I have every respect for the Dunlops and the Martins for their bravery on the IOM, but they are, essentially, one trick ponies. If they were to, at least, do a season of BSB, then we could see what they were really made of.

I'd say the opposite. Get the BSB boys to do the IOM, NW200 and Cookstown 100 for a year and see what they are made of. Lets see if they are as brave when there is no safety net. Afterall if you fall off on a track you have more than enough room around you to stop and its very rarely any real injury happens. With all that smooth tarmac and sand traps etc.

Rossi once done a parade lap of the IOM and he said he would never race it because of the danger aspect. Not many people from WSB, BSB or MotoGP have ever raced the TT. Foggy was one of the rare breed that did do both.... but then look at Foggy, he was as mad as the rest of these bastards.

The reason all of the top riders raced in the TT back in the day was that it was the only British circuit on the Grand Prix calendar. Agostini was the first to boycott the TT following the death of Gilberto Parlotti in 1972, Ago claimed that the mountain course was too dangerous and other riders, notably Phil Read, also joined in the boycott. Interestingly, many of the top riders returned when the prize money was increased.
