put my stand through the tarmac

I know it's not uncommon to have your stand sink into the pavement but it was a first for me!

Came out of the shop to find my bike leaning on the parking bollard I'd parked next to, thought "don't remember it being that close" got on it, stood it up and saw the hole I'd made in the pavement.

I know a puck is the best way to avoid this happening again, but where do you store it so that it doesn't get stolen if you've not used it?

Any way of telling if the tarmac is going to take the weight of the stand?

Put your hand on the tarmac, how hot is it? If blooming hot, definitely going to be soft.

exactly the same thing happened to me for the first time in 5 years of riding daily.

Pretty lucky it didn't fall over. I've started using a puck.

I keep my puck under my pillion seat on the zx9r.

I'd suggest a large round one. The one I've got is some freebie my pal gave me in the shape of a bike. The tarmac still sunk slightly while using it.

Put mine down a drain cover once

Put the side stand down on a kerb stone or a concrete paving slab if the weather is really hot. Tarmac will give way, where as concrete won't.

One night when all the street lights had gone out due to a power cut, I rode into my parents front garden and cut the engine.

A voice called out in the darkness and suddenly a mate was standing next to me. We chatted for a few minutes, I stayed sat on the bike. The bike was upright the whole time. I think I just assumed I had flicked the side stand down when I pulled in and stopped.

He left, I leaned the bike over onto the non existent stand and me and the bike (CG125) fell through the neighbour's 3 foot high fence.

You could always enlarge the foot on the stand itself.

Mate of mine did it on his KTM by welding a bit of steel plate cut into the outline of a human foot to the bottom of his stand. Leaves comedy footprints where he parks it and copes with pretty soft dirt too.
