Just wondering. If you park a motorcycle in a multi storey car park, the ones in which you take a card, barrier lifts, then when you come back you pay on the card and insert it into the machine etc.

If the barrier is quite small, small enough to ride around without needing to get a ticket, and the car park has a designated motorcycle parking area, does this mean you can ride in and out for free? Or do they have some kind of camera watching by the barrier?

Or does it depend on each car park?

If it has a barrier and ticket system, that probably includes bikes too. ie you should pay.

I doubt that they would willingly allow you to park for free. They would, however, struggle to recoup parking fees if you choose to not pay them.

The bike bays in my local multi story are placed equally before and after the entry barrier. I never pay but thats because I know that my council has free motorcycle parking throughout the borough.

I snip by the sides of them. Westfield shopping centre at Shepherd's bush is a prime example! They leave about a foot between the end of the barrier and the kerb for you to get your bike around.

Done it numerous times at watford and other places in London too. Bike specific parking - if it says free, then proceed. Even if they charge you, if you can get past, get past!

My guessing is it's by the carpark. Where I live (Norwich) we have 2 multi story carparks that have bike bays and are designed to ride around barriers with plenty of space beside them.

All the other car parks are not bike friendly at all and won't even let you in or give you a ticket as it doesn't recognise that a vehicle is there.

The one near me has a barrier that you need to take a ticket from. However, on the way out it has a motorcycle lane for you to use, which misses the barrier out - thus free Thinking
At Thorpe park, even tho I think your ment to pay? I manage to squeeze past on the left Laughing

When we took the bikes to Thorpe Park we were told to park in a special area right by the entrance for the m4d freebies (and so security could keep an eye on the bikes!)

So there is unlikely to be some CCTV by the barriers so they can get your reg plate or something?
I paid £2.50 and i was in town for 25 minutes...

I have been to a couple of multistory's with the bike.

The one in Plymouth had a bike parking area that you enter before you get the the barrier and you just squeeze round the barrier to go through the car park and out.

The one I went to in Worcester I had to pay the same as a car but the guard was really helpful and said I could park out the way and helped my with the ticket on my way out. Thumbs Up (company paid the parking charge Very Happy )
