Tyres

I know this gets talked about loads, But unfortunately for me I only have a choice of 4 tyres for my ninja as they are 16" wheels.

The choices are

Pirelli SPORT DEMON
Bridgestone BT45
Metzler LAsertech
Avon RoadRider

I may decide to turn into an old bike for trackdays once ive got the diversion running so I would like something good for them and in the wet. I dont do a lot of miles so as long as get 3k from the tyres they should last me a few years, or until I sell the bike.

Anyone used any of the above. Don't mention anything else (Unless comes in 16")

I had BT45s on my last bike. Good grip, good price and good life.

I have Avon RoadRiders currently. They are so lolworthy. If it's slightly damp outside my XJ600 will spin up the rear wheel accelerating from 30. That's saying something.

Ive got some avon tyre on there at the moment. there are from about 2005 so quite old, but like new tread wise. but they skip real bad and I dont get any confidence cornering. Also MOT is due soon and advisory from last year was that the rear was out of shape slightly.

Avon Roadriders are terrible IME. No confidence, little grip, take an absolute age to warm up. Horrible.

How do things stand with regard to mixing tyres?

The rear on my CB is on its' last legs. I've been told BT45's are top notch, but apparently you need to inflate them more than stock.

That would mean a rear tyre on 38-40psi and a front on 30 (because it's a Pirelli).

Would that cause problems, or is the point that the higher pressure simply results in the same performance anyway?

Well, the Sport Demons I have on back and front are doing well. That's what I got 7k out of. But the rear has been squared off for a long time (3000 miles +). I just stuck with it because it seems a waste of half a tyre, I hardly lean anyway. Tread was fine.

I must have had a different batch of Avon RoadRiders, I found them to be superb in the wet and cold, and more than adequate in the warm and le dry.

I've had the sport demons and the bt45s id go with the demons everyday of the week better wet and dry grip warm up quicker and last longer.
