Pete's Thread RS125 Rebuild - Compression Ratios

I was just reading's Pete thread that Paddy posted up on another topic and read with interest on the Aprillia RS125 engine rebuild.

How the hell do you calculate compression ratios? All the sites I have looked up go into far too much detail.

I have a fair understanding in mathematics but is there a step by step guide?

The formula is fairly straightforward.

Getting the clearance volume is the awkward bit.
