Unfortunately the owner wasn't around to ask about the bike.

I believe it's a 1964 Velocette LE mkIII ????

Can't say i've ever seen one before. It was in pretty good condition considering it's 49 years old.

The people's bike of 50's and 60's Britain.

Liked, and loathed at the same time. A police bike, and an office worker's bike. Likewise a woman's bike too.

Certainly wasn't typical then, not by a long shot.

The individual bits of the design had been around for ages, but the concept of putting together that particular combination of engine, transmission and rider protection, was pretty radical in 1948 and remained so for many years.

It's interesting that Slam talks about his Grandpa having an LE, because it could be argued that the Noddy was the Grandpa of his NC700 commuter special.

I mean, by today's standard, all these things the bike incorperates is quite possibly what people want as a commutor these days.
