I had never encountered this whilst in the body trade but am looking at buying a car for my son. The seller claims that it has some paintwork damage as a result of asbestos dripping from the garage roof.

Now, asbestos is a fibrous material that, of course, was used in a carrier for some applications but I've never heard of it being corrosive to paintwork.

Anyone heard of, or experienced this?

Ignoring the fibre/health issues asbestos was so popular because it's pretty much "inert" and resistant to most things it would normally come into contact with, water, acids alkalis, heat etc. Can't see it causing the paint problems more than likely it's something that has just run off it and dripped onto the paintwork, the corroded fixings maybe?? or something totally unrelated to the roof.

That's what I was thinking. Problem is it is 90 minutes each way to view it.

Asbestos doesn't drip - never will unless you live in a volcano. It's basically rock after all. If anything it'll be cement (also rock) since the two are often mixed.
