636 servo buddy and FI light

When installing servo buddy (or other brand of equivelant), the FI light stays out when riding but flashes when it's locked up, I assume this is normal? There's always been tape on it so I've not noticed it before.
I just installed the servo buddy and then pulled the tape off.

locked up as in switched off?
if so, then that's normal, like once every 10 seconds or something.

for the immobiliser or some shit.
