Bike Spec: Yamaha R6 03
Rider: Middle aged old fart - doesn't race or do more than 3 track days a year - bimbles along nicely.

History: I bought some track focussed pads and found them to lack initial bite and take an age to warm up at the speeds I was riding at on the road.

Now: I look online for brake pads and there are loads of different types and stuff.. sintered, carbon impregnated, etc etc.
I am all confused.

I want: brake pads that have good initial bite and 'feel'.
Nothing harsh .. but feel like they are going to stop the bloody thing, rather than the existing ones which feel like 2 bits of polished stone rubbing together.

Ta muchly

You want sintered, then you need to cook the cunts by going fucking fast and braking hard. Lots.

If the above isn't you (yeah, right), buy a skateboard.

Last year I went on a rather spirited ride .. this would not normally have been an issue , but for some reason I found myself constantly 'trailing' the front brake (probably because I was trying to keep up with an ex bemsee racer and sh*tting myself) .
The end result was that the brake disks turned slightly blue/black and the pads were smoking.

Should I do this again ?

I agree with the sintered type. EBC in my brembos and they work great.

Look for these https://ebcbrakes.com/product/extreme-pro-brake-pads/

bloody amazing .. I was almost standing the bike on its nose at some points.
Then it tailed off badly and I now have brakes that feel like marble.

Buy new ones, sintered, and don't pussy them, they'll glaze.

My vote is brembo sintered pads. Put them in my storm and although you don't get masses of meat on the pad they are fantastic stoppers.

I have still got the original front pads in the R1 calipers after 24k miles and there is still quite a bit of pad material left. But then I do not ride that fast as I am old and slow Wink

SBS,Ferodo,Brembo all make good replacement pads.

But I installed some Ferodo fast road pads onto a friends R1 5JJ recently and they tore the soft EBC discs to shreds within a few hundred miles.Yet another friend said that the same pads worked okay on his 5JJ OEM discs.

Maybe the EBC discs were not a good batch Confused
