Morning folks.

I've got to head off to work, but I thought if I posted now I could return and read through the pages Wink of knowledge this afternoon!

I recently popped together a yx160 engine with a 180 bore kit, and despite the cam chain being so tight that I had to wind the sprocket on with 1 of its securing bolts Confused , the little motor sprang to life after a couple of kicks and I proceeded to run in for 200miles.

I am now at the point where i'm trying to work out if i need to re-jet and have been following this guide to try an determine:

https://www.ooracing.com/tuningTips.htm

Initially i thought the bike was running rich because:

The running in plug was black (see pic).
The bike is using the carb balanced for the standard 160 engine.
The internet tells me that often when fitting a larger bore the carb will need to be "leaned" out.
I've never had to touch the choke?
when swapping between the quiet pipe and the loud during run in , the quiet pipe produced some bogging.

Now the bike is run in I've swapped oil, fitted a new plug and begun spanking it hard and doing some "plug chop runs" as described in the guide.

However, after 3 hard full throttle runs, the plug still comes out looking almost like new (see single plug pic). White as apposed to a nice pancake colour.

Am I really that lean? I've not seen the header glowing red.

I'm going to fit the quiet pipe back on and do another few runs to see if the plug colour changes, before I contemplate swapping jets.

My conclusive question is: does anyone have any tips on carb tuning? Is this guide I'm using rubbish? should I maybe leave the plug for 50miles or so and then check it?

I haven't even attempted any air screw adjustments yet, should I try that?

Or should I just pop in the iridium and leave it all alone, because the capacity increase isn't really that much over standard and the bike is pulling rather well Mr. Green .

Regards

Slim
