Don't think so mate. Pretty sure you're only allowed to ride it without an M.O.T if you're on your way to the test centre.

I think you know the answer already. No!

However it turns out my partner's car hadn't had one for 3 months and we've not got in trouble lol

It's been on the motorway for hundreds of miles in these 3 months including the m25...nothing...anpr is clearly rubbish. Did have tax and insurance though.

Your chances of getting caught are quite low, but increase the more you drive. Moreso in a car because ANPR coming other way can also run your plate.

I thought you could drive on the day it expired, so it was valid until the day after the date of expiration.

Why did you not get it mot'd before it ran out? You can do it up to a month before, and it'll add on to the year, so if it is mot'd 1 month before the current mot expires, you will be given a 13 month mot certificate.

Circumstances till now didn't offer the opportunity to get it done, thought it wouldn't be a problem this late on!
I'm not planning on riding it after he 13th, but wondered where i stood riding it on the day it expires....

I've done it before, and ill do it again if i need to, I'm sure it's fine. Very Happy

Even if you were to get pulled I'm sure you could argue the odds and be let off.

I drove for 3 months without tax, through various anpr, in front of pigs etc etc, didn't get caught until a traffic Hitler noticed, anecdotally jizzed his pants and reported.me. the system cares about tax much, much more than mot.

But no, not legal.[/img]

but wait...

are you not on Thursday and Friday taking said bike for repairs necessary for the MOT?...

as AFAIK you are covered providing you are taking the vehicle to be repaired. ask Rogerborg or Paddy, they'll tell you.

I rode around for about a week this month without MOT because I hadn't realised it expired. MOT in May, Tax in July, Insurance in July. Assumed they were all July.

Having looked it up, the realistic penalty is a 60 quid FPN. For one day that's probably worth the gamble. I doubt fixed cameras pull you up for MOT otherwise I'd definitely have been done in a week of flying up and down motorways and past various patrol cars.

I have to drive 400 miles on Sunday and I was thinking 'okay, petrol 40-50 quid, train ticket 100 quid, potential MOT fine 60 quid... driving comes out better unless I think I have a 70%+ chance of being pulled over'.

But then I got booked in and everything was fine.

This has happened with one of my cars previously. Driving thinking it wasn't due till the next month, when in fact it was already overdue. I guess riding with the knowledge its due adds a sense of paranoia!

I don't think ANPR is interested in MOT it knows there going have to have one next time tax comes around..

Penalty for no MOT is usually non endorsable £60 !! Unless there is any unsafe bits !!

I think even in a crash the insurance would have to proove it was due a defective part due to lack of MOT to invalidate insurance.?

I may be talking rubbish though as its early..

lad in work has been driving his car with no mot for 3 months and not been done for it yet,

stick to roads without cameras and you'll not likely get caught

...however don't hold me to that as there's always a risk involved

Just got this from the GOV website

If your MOT has expired
You can’t drive your vehicle on the road if the MOT has expired. You could be prosecuted if caught.

The only exception is if you’ve already booked an MOT and are driving your vehicle to the test centre.

I suppose it could vary depending on the condition when caught

also found this

Driving without MOT penalty

This enables police patrols to pull you over with ease and additionally, static cameras may also catch a vehicle driving without a valid MOT test certificate. The penalty for driving without an MOT is not generally too severe if dealt with swiftly. No points are issued on a drivers licence although a fine is imposed by court of up to a maximum of £1000.

A fixed penalty notice is usually the method dealt with by police which costs the driver £60. Failure to pay, or repeat offenders will receive a court summons where the fine will escalate and will include court costs.

Having a valid MOT test certificate doesn't necessarily mean the vehicle is road worthy. Using a vehicle in a dangerous condition, for example defective brakes, illegal tyres, defective steering, can land a driver with significantly higher fines and points on their licence. The maximum fines imposed are:

•LGV £5000
•PCV £5000
•Other vehicles including cars £2500
3 penalty points for each offence, for example 3 points for defective brakes, 3 points per illegal tyre, 3 penalty points for defective steering are placed on the drivers licence.

Other than the initial fine and court costs, the financial burden is increased for a further 4 years - the duration in which the penalty point last on a drivers licence. If fortunate not to lose the licence due to exceeding 12 penalty points, the added points will certainly increase vehicle insurance premiums

Think the longest I ever went without MOT on the car was nearly 6 months (!!!). Shat me knickers when I finally remembered.
