https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/product_images/medium/shark_raw_stripe_red-white-red_rwr.jpg

I really like that, not sure if it will go with my bike/gear (Red Fazer but if they're totally different reds it'll look silly), will have to see.... Was looking at getting a new helmet for after the babies born and I can get back on the bike, my current one is boring me Very Happy

Hmm, yeah, not so sure, thinking it looks more of an offroad or cruiser bike helmet Confused

I have a Caberg flip face helmet and my instructor ripped into it as ‘what not to use’ when I did my CBT saying its nothing but an open face helmet with chin piece screwed on after its passed the EU regulations and wouldn’t do anything to protect my face in an accident…. I’m guessing he would say the same about this. I like this helmet but I don’t like the elasticated straps that connect to face piece to the rest of the helmet they could of invited some form of hinge.

On what information did he base his opinion that it had been tested in the open versus the closed configuration?

This page and this one suggests that the Konda was homologated as full face, while the Duke (and Sintesi) passed in both open and closed configurations.

It takes virtually no effort to find this out, which tells you exactly how much effort he put into (not) doing so.

What you have to be aware of with flip ups is that they arent approved with the front up 90% of the time. They're only approved as full face lids so are technicly not legal for the road when open!

Oh, you want some too?

The Motor Cycles (Protective Helmets) Regulations 1998

MC(PH)R 1998 wrote:

(3) In this regulation—
“protective headgear” means a helmet which—

(a) either—
(i) bears a marking applied by its manufacturer indicating compliance with the specifications contained in one of the British Standards (whether or not as modified by any amendment) mentioned in Schedule 2 to these Regulations; or

(ii) is of a type manufactured for use by persons on motor cycles which by virtue of its shape, material and construction could reasonably be expected to afford to the wearer a degree of protection from accidental injury similar to or greater than that provided by a helmet of a type prescribed by regulation 5;

(b) if worn with a chin cup attached to or held in position by a strap, is provided with an additional strap (to be fastened under the wearer’s jaw) for securing the helmet to the head; and

(c) is securely fastened to the head by means of straps provided for that purpose; and
“strap” includes any fastening device.

There is nothing in there, not one word, not a hint, about configurations, or conditional approval.

Even if there were, then under 3 (a) (ii), I would "reasonably expect" a flipped up helmet to offer "a degree of protection from accidental injury similar to or greater than that" of an approved open face helmet.

T.C agrees with this, as does one of White Dalton's solicitors who would quite like to be prosecuted for it to test the issue.

Not my sort of helmet, however tried it on and checked it out.

Its pretty flimsy and the front parts fall out too easily. Goggles are abit annoying to use and just flap in the wind when you have them up. Personally for the price your better off just getting an open face helmet and goggles seperately for a better price
