The legend that is Murray Walker has been diagnosed with cancer Crying or Very sad Apparently it's a mild form and is treatable but at 89 years of age might be harder to shift. Grew up listening to him on the BBC/ITV watching every F1 qualifying and race since 1996. Sincerely hope he beats it Thumbs Up

89 and you hope he beats it? Why? He's probably gagging to get away without having to top himself.

He might not be tired of life yet. 89 doesn't automatically mean decrepit.

I hope he goes out with dignity and panache, like sitting in the gravel trap at the end of a long straight and saying "And here! Comes! Pastor Maldonado, now just! Watch! This! for a display of driving excellence..."

If he does cark it, open casket funeral, Martin Brundle goes up to give the eulogy, looks down and says, "You're right there, Murray".

His voice reminded me of a two-stroke going through Gerard's at Mallory.

I liked uncle Murray and his passion. I missed him when he left and even now that new bloke they have doing it is crap. Apparently he used to be a racer although how he managed to get a helmet to fit his square head I will never know. Yes. I am talking about Kryten himself. Coulthard. There is more personality in my turds.

Murray Walker is a legend. His commentary was frequently more entertaining than what was happening on the track. He was absolutely hysterical (in all senses) when he used to do bikes. Barry Sheene is alike a wild animal when he gets in behind Randy Mamola! Niki Lauda would love to be a James Hunt but sadly isn't! Freddie Spencer continues to laugh in the face of Isaac Newton! Nigel Mansell has quite literally come back from the dead! Etc Laughing

Seems to still enjoy life and certainly doesn't look like a man of nearly 90. Hope he gets well soon.

The irony of that being, he's probably forgotten more than most people could ever hope to know about F1, I suspect he's still one of the most knowledgable folk on the subject.

And don't forget he made his name doing bike commentaries with his dad, renowned road racer Graham Walker, TT winner and the first man to win a road race at an average speed of 80mph.

Murray probably knows more about bikes than he does cars, he's always said they were his first love.

His tone of voice and enthusiasm made the most boring of races seem exciting. Something we really need at the moment.

Read his autobiography last year and was a fascinating read. Saw a feature in a mag this week and thought to myself "Christ hes getting on a bit, surprised hes not dead or suffering with an illness yet".

And now this. Hes had one hell of a life though.
