Good for wallpapers if nothing else.

Frame design between 2013 and 2006 is v interesting.

note precision lockwiring and two oil sight glasses?

Omnomnom. Engineering porn. It's a shame the MotoGP bikes are getting further and further away from what you can actually buy though. You would expect to get more of the tech for the £12k they expect people to pay for an R1 these days...

I think he's referring to trickle down technology.

Like paddle shift systems, traction control, use of carbon has made it's way into road cars from F1.

We have traction control, ABS, ram air, use of carbon, and frame design from Moto GP.

On the flip side though.

For 12k, you don't get much tech in a car either. I think for a 12k bike, there's more tech there than a 12k car

That's pretty much what I was getting at yes, albeit in a really unclear way.

Fair, I reckon the stuff we're getting's not that far removed. When you allow for mass production, and silly EU laws.

All arguably 'trickled' the other way and then returned to the road in a more workable form, tbh.

Yes, McLaren made the first carbon monocoque and Ferrari the first paddle-shift box, etc. but these were technologies born outside of F1 and then developed within the sport.

The most relevant technology to have its origins in F1 and make its way to road cars are modern oils and lubricants.

Also, we should give a nod to the humble rear-view mirror which had its birth in a pre WWI Indy500.

Sheeeeit - he'd have a job tethering that one to the tarmac, I'd say! What a bike.

Nothing looks like its in the right place on the engine to me!

The waterpump is really low, the clutch is really high and I can't make head nor tail of the engine cases. That sump is huge!

Based purely on nothing at all I am guessing the two oil level glasses are the high and low and there are two because it burns so much in a race that one glass wouldn't cover enough area, anybody know how far off I am?

I'm guessing that it picks the oil out of the sump when it starts and you can then check there is oil present when its running.
