I've got a bike for sale on ebay, in the listing it states please use ebay to ask any questions.

Today I get an email from ebay, someone has requested seller details so ebay has now supplied this someone with my name, address and phone number.

No transaction has taken place and yet they give out my details.

This was first thing this morning, no email, no ebay message, no phone call so I've gone out to make sure all bikes are locked together, cctv is working and cameras are clean and alarms are on.

What kind of retarded policy would make it ok to give out a sellers details before transaction, especially one for a vehicle sale?

If it was me I would email eBay asking what reason they supplied your information without any transaction taking place.

surely it is a breach of DPA?

Ouch, that's a bit dodgy... I have a bike for sale on eBay currently also, I can do without my address being given out to people by someone other than myself!

I know it can be done, I've requested and been supplied details in the past, but only after I bought something that never turned up. I would have expected that a transaction should occur first.

Well worth an email to eBay to ask why that's happened!

Is it possible that you have an eBay shop account rather than a personal account?

That said, the last time I needed to get contact details was post-purchase and they also sent my details to the seller when they sent the seller's details to me.

I'd be contacting eBay... that's just not on.

I have emailed them, bit shitty i feel so might not get a reply but asked them if they are happy to take responsibility if my bike is stolen tonight.

As for the dpa thing, I expect they have it all stitched up in their policy.

The internetz seems to be awash with stuff like this and has been going on for some time.

It does seem to have a theme of the other person having either won a previous auction of yours etc OR and this is the good bit, anyone who has ever bid on an item.

Nope, they don't have to have won. Just bid 99p on that Impreza you like, request the details of the seller and then go rob it at your leisure.
