Not having much luck with bikes lately. My ZX6R has cut out on the motorway twice now in about 250 miles. Doesn't splutter - just shuts off, and I roll to a stop in gear.

Bike turns over but won't fire. Ignition off & on and it starts first time. Weird one!

So far I'm confident I have ruled out: sidestand switch, cut-off switch and battery (& connections).

What do you think?

P.s. this bike is fuel pump fed

Sigh.

Yes it has a Cyclone V2 wired up to be an immobiliser. I'm going to be pretty disappointed if that is the problem, although it makes sense since it controls the ignition supply.

I can bypass this feature by sticking the fuse back in and will see how it goes. The only other thing I can think of is the ignition switch...

Thanks for the help Wink

US Kaw's sometimes do this when the battery is a bit iffy. It's from the headlight turning on as soon as the bike tries to fire. The ya try to start it again & the headlight is on & lowering the battery charge. Turning the ign off & on again turns the headlight off so there's more puff in the battery for starting.

Quick update in case anyone finds this through a search.

So it looks like this was the problem. I put the ignition fuse back in and have done ~800 miles (ridden much harder as well) with no issues.

The V2 controls the ignition circuit when it detects the key in the 'ON' position - that's the reason you remove the fuse (so it doesn't come on automatically). By putting the fuse in you are effectively negating this functionality. I am presuming the relay or latch that applies 12V to the ignition is breaking down some how.

So bad news, that part of the alarm is broken, but on the plus side the alarm still goes off if you turn the key on with the alarm armed (it just doesn't immobilise).

And no more retarded cutting out.
