Just took my head off to be greeted with this:

Why on earth would my bike be fitted with 3 head gaskets? Confused

The XJ600 head gasket is made of multiple sheets.

When dissasembled they can fall to bits...perfectly normal IMO. Thumbs Up

MLS gasket = Multi Layered Steel. The faces have a thin coating of viton rubber.

When I took the head off the GPz that had the same type of gasket (OK they were glued together), but in an effort to be cheap and scabby I removed the top and bottom one and just put the middle one back in.... turns out they might actually need them as the oil and water is mixing worse than when I had it (although what did the guy expect for £50)
