I am thinking of buying a 'new car' (second hand but fairly recent).
Now please understand that cars mean nothing to me... hence for years I have used the bangernomics method of buying a car that will last a year and then dumping it.

I have no decided I need something a bit more 'decent'.

My question is: Whats wrong or good about buying from these 'Jefferies Farm / Unbeatable Car' places ?

I popped into one today and they sound pretty good.

Watch the extras, they're very good at bamboozling you with extra costs. The ticket price of the car is low but it's not so attractive once you discover the extras they've charged you for.

My brother bought a car from one of the popular car supermarkets, and on delivery of the car they'd charged him £99 for what turned out to be a set of floor mats and a set of number plates! Because number plates are optional extras, of course.

Old dear bought a 1.8 Zetec Focus from Jeffries farm 10 years ago, been perfect. Old man bought another from them few years ago, again no problem.

Mileage tends to be high, but it's likely motorway miles and not too much start/stop.

The TC electronics failed and they fixed it Thumbs Up

What's a driving instructor from Jo-han-us-berg doing out in the sun?

I live not far from Jefferies farm..

Their trade in values tend to be a bit mean and they are very resistive to haggling, but I guess you get what you pay for. A lot of their cars are from Northern Ireland (re-registered) or ex rentals, which personally I have no problem with, my last three cars have been ex rentals.

My present car is from Big motoring world in Maidstone, again, you get what you pay for but they specialize in beemers.

Overall, the car supermarkets seem more transparent in their pricing than main dealers.
