Salisbury did until recently have 3 bike parking bays, one on New canal, Market square and Brown Street.

Market square cannot be used on Tues and sat as the market is there and they do have bike anchors but none are usable because they have not been maintained.
I try not to park here as a van could park without attention a metre away from bikes and have one straight in the back.

Brown st is a backstreet car park with easy access to bikes, no anchors and no cctv so try to avoid this one as well.

New canal, busy shopping area, any van pulling up to bikes or other activity would generate interest, no anchors but cctv coverage but intheir wisdom the council have dug up the whole area, got rid of the bike bays and it is now free parking bays for disabled drivers, a taxi rank and then a huge expanse of open block paving which could have easily been bike parking without huge extra cost.

Anyway, I emailed the council who ignored the loss of the spaces issue but did tell me bikes can park in any of the car bays/ on street parking for free subject to posted time restrictions.

Please feel free to take up as much space as you feel required and maybe the bike bay will be brought back.

Not just being an arse but we all know how some cage drivers can be, reversing into bikes and moving them because they can't drive so i'm not overly chuffed at my choice of potential theft or potential damage when other options are cheap and easy but the council choose to ignore it.

Dear Mr Marmalade

Thank you for your email. I can advise that motorcycles may park in any marked pay and display parking bay in any Wiltshire Council pay and display car park or on street pay and display bay without charge. The vehicle must be parked in accordance with all other restrictions shown and therefore must comply with the maximum stay of the car parking area. The on street pay and display bays have a maximum stay of 1 hour, the maximum stays in the car parks vary.

Please see the following link for information regarding the maximum stays of the car parks:
