Category P test

Hey guys,
Just wondering if i can pick your brains for a minute. I am currently 16 riding a DNA 50; and im going to take my full moped test in a couple of weeks. I was just wondering if someone could explain the practical test to me, ie what ill have to do and what are the most commen things to fail on. I know it may seem a bit daft taking a test for a ped, but i really just want the roadcraft lessons, so i feel a safer rider; that and i can give lifts (allbeit slow lifts) to mates . Anyone know if the moped test is as hard as the one you take at 17 for a 125?
Also, off topic i know, but i was wondering what kind of insurance cost im lookin at for a NSR 125 for a 17 yr old on CBT roughly. Thanks for any help

Insurance is high on all 125's... You will probably be best just getting 3rd party only insurance or it will cost more then the bike.

I assume you are talking about the light motorcycle licence? from what i know i would say it is exactly the same as any other bike test, only the machine you do it on is a little easier to control.

There is a moped test, but virtually nobody takes it. However for thinking about doing it and getting some more training.

Personally I would guess at around £600 for tpft insurance on an older sports 125 at 17.

I'm 17 and getting a CBR 125. When i rang around i got these prices for insurance:
Fully Comp- £1800 to £3100
TPFT-£1200-£1650
3rd party only- £660-£1050

Not cheap i'm afraid.

By the way thats with DataTag fitted and stored in a locked garage.

If cat P is very similar to the normal test, just wondering how long the practical test lasts, how many mistakes you're allowed and anything i could practice beforehand.

If the Cat. P test is the same as the full category A motorcycle test, it will last approx 45 minutes with about 35 minutes riding time.

You will be followed by an instructor either on bike or motorcycle.

At the beginning of the test you will be fitted with a radio, then have your eyesight checked, where the examiner will ask you to read the registration of a car parked in the car park.

You will then proceed out on to the road and at some point during the test you'll be asked to perform a series of maneuvers (e.g. angled start, hill start, u-turn, emergency stop etc..)

When you get back to the test centre you will be taken back into the office and given your result (you may get asked about some pillion questions first).

To pass the test you'll be allowed to make no more 15 minors (& no serious/dangerous's). Hope this helps & best of luck with the test.

Regarding insurance, for my AR125-A8 I was quoted between £250-400 with a years no claims, very good especially since it's Northern Ireland.
