 |
|
I'm converting my 2007 ER-6 to a race bike and so it must comply with ACU rules. Here's one: "For machines fitted with two front disc brakes, a split of the front brake lines for both front brake calipers must be made at or above the lower fork."
According to this page:
https://www.helperformance.com/motorcycle/kawasaki/er-6/
my ER6 needs special expensively long brake lines because it's the ABS version. I don't really want ABS on the track anyway, so can I just install the normal brake lines and bypass the ABS completely as well as save money? Obviously the ABS warning light will come on but I don't care about that.
Non-ABS brakes on the left, ABS on the right:

My bike is the right panel - can I just run a brake line from the handlebar assembly straight to the caliper as in the left panel? |

Unsure as i've not realy looked into the ABS system but can check it out at work.
However, every ABS system i've ever worked on went;
Master cylinder -----> ABS pump -------> Caliper
So, just run the line straight from MC to caliper and the brakes will function correctly. I would however still leave the pump in place & connected even if totally dry & see how the system responds to being unplugged before it gets removed. Certain cars will throw a wobbler & put the engine in limp mode.
Could potentially cut down on costs by using goodridge build a line kits to make stuff up to your own spec? ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.
