I'm converting my 2007 ER-6 to a race bike and so it must comply with ACU rules. Here's one: "For machines fitted with two front disc brakes, a split of the front brake lines for both front brake calipers must be made at or above the lower fork."

According to this page:

https://www.helperformance.com/motorcycle/kawasaki/er-6/

my ER6 needs special expensively long brake lines because it's the ABS version. I don't really want ABS on the track anyway, so can I just install the normal brake lines and bypass the ABS completely as well as save money? Obviously the ABS warning light will come on but I don't care about that.

Non-ABS brakes on the left, ABS on the right:

My bike is the right panel - can I just run a brake line from the handlebar assembly straight to the caliper as in the left panel?

Should be fine. On my bike, if there is a ABS fault it just reverts to normal brakes. You'd save a shed load of weight by junking all the ABS gubbins too.

Looked into brake lines for mine..... £286 for the kit! Will keep stock setup me thinks.

Make your own, quite cheap and pretty straightforward

How do I make them, and where do I buy the parts?

If I made my own, could I bypass the ABS system? In other words, only make 2 lines instead of 5? I don't want the ABS to work on track.

If I unplug the front brake lines from the ABS unit will the rear brake stop working?

Does it have any wiring or lines that run to the rear brake?

To be honest, as a new racer there wouldn't be a massive issue with running ABS on the track. In fact, it will probably help you brake later and harder with confidence.

You can buy the parts for brake lines from Venhill Powerhouse. Also buy the edition of ractical Superbikes (has a CBR600F on the cover) has a guide in it for making brake lines

Stick a B1H front end on?

I bought my whole set up for less than £300 and sold all my broken bits for £100, I imagine you would get more for working stuff.

Unsure as i've not realy looked into the ABS system but can check it out at work.

Thanks, that would be great! Very Happy Thumbs Up Karma

However, every ABS system i've ever worked on went;

Master cylinder -----> ABS pump -------> Caliper

That's certainly how it looks from the schematics.

I would however still leave the pump in place & connected even if totally dry & see how the system responds to being unplugged before it gets removed.

Presumably it will detect a fault and stop the pump? I don't like the thought of it running while dry.

The ABS light has come on before, the cause was never found and it went away on its own but the brakes and everything else seemed to work fine during that time.
