I'm currently borrowing a colleagues mint CBR1000F but he wants it back by winter. (Money issues made me sell my last bike)

One day I'd like a GSXR750 SRAD. But with a sub £1000 budget that's not happening!

I'm a liker of the 90's sportsbike look and have had a NC30 in the past so just fit a sports 400.

Been looking at CBR400, ZXR400, FZR600, FZR1000, ZX6R, ZZR600, YZF600 thundercat etc but all over my budget.

I think I'm missing a trick, so has any one got suggestions of cheap interesting bikes? Interesting as in I had a 95 CBR600 and it was dead boring. I understand that a sports style bike may not be possible.

Cheers
Stu

If you can save a couple hundred more you could get a 750 SRAD, if I were you I'd wait and get the bike you REALLY want.

Sport style bike for less than £1k is not going to be easy to find.. Maybe some tatty ones with cracked fairings and high mileage.

Realistically you better push it to £1.5k

If you found the cbr boring then maybe a sports bike isn't what you're looking for? Or at least not an il4.

To be honest all of my bikes have cost less than £1000, in fact the first 4 barely cost more than that in total. I've never bought a bike that I would later class as a lemon but then when looking I have never really been after a specific bike, more an idea of the kind/style of bike I want and then gone on mileage and condition across different models.

In all honesty you are unlikely to notice any difference day to day between similar bikes of an era.

Whereabouts are you? I am in Kent and just today done the deal on a fireblade so have made the decision to sell my 92 L reg fzr600. Gonna let it go cheap as I need the garage space and readies quickly. PM me if interested. Will be putting it up for £700.

Depends how you define interesting. If you want something with a screamer of a motor, you'll get a tidy Superfour/CB-1 for that money, not terribly quick but fun to thrash and scream around on with little motors that really reward you for hounding those revs.

Otherwise if you want something that turns on a dime and are not too bothered about motorway blasts. Get a cheap old GS500, bolt an RGV250 shock in the rear and some shrapnel in the forks for preload. The end result is one incredibly pointy yet stable little sleeper of a bike. Huge fun on twisty lanes.

RF600/900. Very underrated and cheap. Just check you fit if you are tall- I found the pegs quite high. Plenty around for under a grand.

lolwut? I paid £900 for a SRAD about 5 years ago, and my friend sold his 750 SRAD for a grand about 2 years ago...

in fact, I'd never consider even paying a grand for one these days unless it was immaculate with loads of extras and fully taxed and tested.

Cheers chaps, the CBR600 was boring as it was a jellymould shape and just didn't ignite the juices visually and riding was just as uneventful.

I need a bike for work, so haven't the luxury of saving more, plus we are in the poop with cash thanks to a dodgy property maintenance company.

I need a bit of protection for motorways.

I had a Bandit 2 years ago and again, pleasant bike, but not something I could enjoy as a hobby as well as transport.

A neighbour has a Kawasaki ZX4 import, ugly little thing (bike not the neighbour) but he won't sell and I can't find any for sale. That's what I mean by interesting.

getting rid of a 600 srad soon, expecting less than a grand..... could do with a bit of a service, and possibly a cam chain tensioner soon though. MOT'd end of july 2014

Actually the SRAD 600, was my first bike, and was very capable, even now I'm sure it could keep up with the modern machines if you know what you're doing in the bendy bits.

Consider one maybe, as the 750 does hold a bit more of a premium in comparison.

You can find the better G model if you look hard.

Hell, you can get a clean Thundercat for that price.

Thundercat is a pretty capable bike once the suspension is set up properly.

You can pick up suzuki sv650s' for a £1,000, not the most powerful of bikes but it is a sporty-ish bike.

Click that ^ and have a search through the bikes, it's sport bikes under £1,000 and 400c and over. There's 4 pages of bikes there for sale Smile

You're colleague must really like you to lend u his bike over the whole of summer, i mean who lends the motorcycle out over summer? Unless he has another bike of course.
