So my 03 R6 was stolen from a bike bay in London last week, what do I do next? I've got to wait 3-4 weeks for the insurance to tell me how little they think they want to give me. I'd like to get another R6 but
I'm assuming that there be a new R6 out next year with underseat exhausts and new design, more like the new R1.
So;
1. should I save my insurance money and sit on the train for 6 months? (grim)
2. buy a cheap commuter bike and run it for 6 months til the new R6 comes out?
3. buy a 2nd hand 03 R6, if I can find a reasonable one, and wait to see what the new R6 is like
4. Buy something different like a VFR800, and try to convince myself that this is a sensible choice for a man of my age and lack of hair.
Whatever I buy I want to be able to sell it easily and not lose too much money on it, so suggestions welcome.
If I go for the route 2 I thought I would look at a Hornet, Fazer, SV650 or old VFR (just to see what one was like).
So far I've seen
SV650 2002 11,770 miles £3595
VFR800F1 W reg 11,500 m £4,795
Hornet 900 £4,595
I've also been offered a brand new Kawasaki z750 for £4,795 which seems like a bit of a bargin (they had just dropped the price by £500 as they have 5 of them in stock. is this a bad buy and would I resell it?)
Any advice appreciated guys (and gals)

It's a bit of a difficult one, I had a similar decision last year when my bike was written off. I was all set to part-ex for the 04 Blade then someone crashed into me. I had to decided wether to buy another 02 Blade or wait 9 - 10 months without transport and see what the new bike was like. I bought another 02 bike in the end with a view to trading it in when the new bike came out.
Your situation is similar, but you have lost half of the summer now (if we ever have one) so that could also be a factor in your decision. The sensible route would be to wait if you can cope with the dullness of public transport, if you buy now you might regret it.
I ended up sticking with the 02 Blade over the 04 in the end and don't regret it so far or do I?
Oh did I mention, you can get a great deal on 02/03 Blades at the mo, as Cath said not that I'm biased!! |
