Having recently purchased a 'legal' plate for the MoT, I looked into the size requirements on the DfT website. According to their letter and spacing sizes, for bikes registered after 2001, the minimum size a plate needs to be in order to be legal is 9.4"x7.1".
This means that the 9x7 plates advertised as 'legal', aren't, and the next size increment available is a whopping 11x8 (which is more or less the size of A4 paper) !!! So if the legal plates don't comply with the DfT regulations, you may as well have any size you like.

Your numberplate doesn't even have to be 9x7, the legal size is based on the size of the letters, I have a 6 character plate and legally can have mine 6.5x6.5

Thinking PoPo may disagree.

You also have the postcode of the shit hole that provided you with the plate at the bottom?

The overall size isn't stated, just the letter sizes, borders and spacing. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/207546/V796.pdf
You can have a smaller plate if your reg contains 1's or I's.

This is the British police though, who do not understand that hit and run is illegal. Laughing
