hi there im in the process of running my rs 125 topend in .
im currently on 90km and keeping it below 6k in revs . the bike runs well in all gears and starts lovely without choke all time .
im having a slight problem tho the bike will only do 30-40 on a flat before it hits 5 -5 half revs then just sputters bad and wont pick up speed or cant rev higher.
on a hill is Evan worse feels like a 50 moped lol .
is this due to it not run in yet or is my carb the problem.

i bought a 34 dellorto in good nick of a old af1 with new gasket kit and boiled it clean it has a 155 main, 60 choke ,b36 idle, top notch needle .
just splutters bad after 5k and no go and bogs. also tried a 158 main with no change. the plug is new and a dark Grey to light black shade

It should not be due to needing to run in as it's a Nicosil plated bore and they don't need running in like a steel bore so carb problem or power valve issues would be my first investigation.

Hi there thanks for replys . I tried my old 28 carb in there today same problem so its gota be where it just needs running in still . I nerver open throttle wide anyway just under half so could be that .
Just got back from run and somtimes when i stop at a junkshion or lights i down shift as norm but it keeps goin and wont stop at first like theres more gears so when i need pull away it bogs out so need to pull over and play with it to find first . This has only started today and not evey time . Gear box oil new two with rebuild so not sure wot goin on .

So isit stuck in neutral or isit going past neutral into 1st but then not actually going into 1st and just somewhere else lol

Maybe it sticking in 2nd or another gear and won't go into neutral and then 1st which would explain why it bogs down when you pull away as it doesn't have enough power to pull from 2nd gear onwards from a stop ... Just a thought most likely wrong.

Or... you could try releasing your clutch a little until u here a little click/clunk and see if it slips into gear, this normally works when bikes are stuck in neutral though.

Na its been workin fine in all gears upto 6k . It was fine done 120km ,gears working ok till yesterday morning i ran out of petrol reseve did not work since then it struggles somtimes changing dowm gears and finding first. Ok so hopfully the 6 k revs is fine engine just needs running in . Thanks for help guys

Op did say top end rebuild only. If the gearbox was fine before the rebuild first thing I'd look at is clutch adjustment as that's all that should have been changed during the rebuild.

That top end is run in now.. just let it warm up then rag the shit out of it. Should be over 60 degrees before you try it.

Make sure its up to temperature then ride it. probably all bunged up with tootling about on it. As said Nicasil doesn't need running in, it stays just as its been plated on. If its got the right size piston it will be ok. (If it hasn't it doesn't matter how long you pootle about it will seize when you give it some). After rebuilding my race bike with new pistons and replate it gets one lap to make sure it runs ok the gets the berries.

hi guys i sorted the gear problem there was bolt lose in clutch cover so tighten and put more oil in problem sorted gears fine .
cleaned my 34 carb jets and took out 155 jet and put 158 reattached as well and cleaned the power valve tonight bike runs a lot cleaner now and seams to pull and take off now quite fast now from 4- 5k all way to 6 then sputter at 6 ,

if i pull throttle all way back at 6 it starts to clear sputter after a few seconds in the splutter then picks up speed and revs to seven clear no sputter i shut it down then coz in the run in period just needed to know it went past 6 if pushed hard ..
i decatted exhaust myself and welded it why rebuilding bike could a small pin hole cause this cant see one but could be air leak there
..
i had a rs 125 before and nerver had this sputter in 6k revs just reved clean till power vale then went like rocket and that only had a 28 carb .. just hoping engine needs to loosen up more and clears problem in running it in .. if not could it be a faulty cdi i bought and someone f*ck mod up thats why sold ..
