I'm sat here having a massive drama in my head thinking about service intervals.

If my bike required servicing say, every 4000 miles for example, does this mean (not including the starting services) that for arguments sake, if my bike started at 0 miles, I rode 4000 miles I'd require a minor service, then at 8000 miles an intermin service, then at 12,000 miles a major service, then 16,000 a minor, 20,000 an intermin and 24,000 a major and so on.

Could someone please elaborate Thumbs Up

Or am I just being a bit of a retard? Rolling Eyes

Think your overthinking it. Just give it a good service every 4000k. Check the things that need to be checked, replace things that need to be replace. It will not hurt the bike one bit if you consistencly give it a good going over

Yes thats correct mate.

Ideally 'minor' listed jobs can be done 2500-3000 even depending on the bike and how you ride. If you have a sportbike you thrash for example you might want to oil change every 2k if you intend to keep the bike a long timeand tip top condition. If you arent already look at getting a good toolkit with torque wrenches together with a service manual. Cost 100-150ish but save that in no time. Most of basic and interim service tasks are very simple with the right tools manual and a bit of internet and youtube searching. And you will do a more thorough job than many garages will.

Good luck Thumbs Up

I tend to over think things to do with my bikes when I am not riding for any period of time Laughing

Thanks for the replies, it's much appreciated

So what about if a year passes before you have done 4k ... I don't commute and my bike is purely for fun. Will it still need servicing just when 4k miles have been reached?

Most intervals are at x-miles/x-years if not reached.

For example even if you only ride 500 miles in a year, after a year you should be changing the oil still really.

Same applies to most of the service tasks just all at varying intervals of time and/or mileage.
