Had to happen eventually I guess!

Coming to West Street in Glasgow on my daily commute taking the corner at about 25mph in the pissing rain and before I know it I'm sliding along on my arse. Left astounded by the chap in a BMW 4x4 that nearly ran over me to get past and continue on his way.

Had a look at the road and no signs of Diesel or gravel, Look again 10 minutes later and almost the whole corner is a rainbow.

Lovely chap and women at the snack van outside the subway were more than helpful, explained a lot of Diesel was spilled there this morning and I guess he jinxed me by telling his wife " That's a bikers worst nightmare that corner " before I came round.

Luckily damage to me is just minor stiff neck and back, slightly sore head and my gear doesn't even look crashed, still good as new.
No kittens were harmed in the accident either.

Bike had crash bungs fitted about 3 weeks ago thankfully, they done their job. Minor scratches to left fairing shroud and grab rail, bung and bar end are scratched to feck.

Any advice for cornering in these situations, I swear 80% of corners between Glasgow and my home had diesel all over them. Just as I was getting confident cornering!

So bottom line is... Diesel Spills are good as when you come off, you will slide on your arse easier which saves ruining yer gear. Smile Thumbs Up

It's always a bonus, but I think the benefits of staying shiny side up far outweigh Diesels gear saving properties!

They offered free coffee and Chocolate, what more could you ask for. Might lowslide next to snack vans more often!

Glad yer safe n all that...

Do it slower in the wet and get some better tyres - it's amazing how a tyre upgrade improved my confidence after a couple of similar incidents (I use Michelin Pilot Roads).

Also, brake before any corners and try to keep even throttle through - it balances the weight evenly between the two tyres providing maximum grip. Most times that you lose the bike completely are down to working the front tyre too much and it just going from under you... working the back too much is more easily recoverable. Even engine braking will throw the weight forward slightly and make the front more likely to step out.
