Had a phone call from a friend telling me that he was riding his GS500 riding along when the front brake pad fell out. Thought this was impossible so I've taken a look at the bike and sure enough, one of the brake pads is missing - And I cant work out why.

The brake disk is all in place with no damage but there seems to be play between the outer friction surface and the inner disk hub - Should this be solid ? I'm wondering if something has gone wrong with the disk and the pad's vibrated out

If the retaining pin is in place and intact then my best guess would be that either the pad was incorrectly fitted or the backing plate for the pad was damaged somehow.
