Hi all

My Vespa GTS 300 was stolen the other day from outside my house. This was within the space of ten minutes as I had just gone in to go toilet. Unfortunately my road doesn't have any cameras so I don't know how the *****'s got away with it.

Now, I'm trying to claim on the insurance however they have a clause saying that whenever the bike is at the home address, it MUST be parked in the garage.

This is completely unfair as I had an appointment at my garage to do some work on the bike so it was actually in use. I never leave the bike outside, it's always in the garage.

Where do I go from here?
Is there any advice anyone can offer me? Obviously I'd like to claim as I've paid for insurance for a reason.

The following is what the clause states 'we will not pay any claim under section 2 for loss or damage by theft or attempted theft when the insured motorcycle is parked at the insured's permanent place of residence and/or the declared garaging address, unless the motorcycle is kept in a properly constructed and locked garage'

Anyone have any ideas?
Cheers
Case

You are out of luck as theys the terms you agreed to. Am guessing you just had the steering lock on - can be snapped in a second and then wheeled away with the assistance of a fellow peddist.

Keep an eye on Crimewatch to see how many jobs your bike is involved in.

edit - and lol at the 'bike was in use'. No, no it wasn't.

Just see what your insurance company says, they may well pay out.
If they don't you can take it further, but the facts are on their side.

Yeah, you're quite out of luck on this one I'm sorry to say.

Did you know about the clause before you made the claim? I'm guessing you did as you signed up to it. In which case your bike might have actually been nicked from outside a neighbour's house where you had popped in to drop off a cup of sugar.

Gutted for you, the thieving scum love the GTS 300 and can take it in seconds if you just have the steering lock on.

You mustn't have remembered properly, you were at your mates down the road after being out for a ride and it was stolen from his drive, not yours.

yet another example of insurance just being complete tits. Why the hell we all bother with insurance, its a total scam.

how many times have we all left the bike outside for whatever reason. I'd just lie mate, it was parked down the road as i was dropping something off at a neighbours.

they would never know.

Check the terms of your policy.
Mine specified that if at home it must be stored in a garage between certain hours.

Tell them it was stolen from some place other than your house, somewhere without cctv.

And probably delete this thread if your going down that route
